While the Sloe Gin Fizz made Sloe Gin in the US famous, it isn’t the only way to imbibe this ruby red drink. There are many recipes for sloe gin, here’s a classic one.
1 ounce of Plymouth Gin
1 ounce of Sloe Gin
a dash or two of orange bitters
Shake sloe gin and gin with ice, then strain in a glass filled with ice. Add a dash or two of bitters. Garnish with a twist of orange, if desired.
This recipe for Greater New York was published 1902, in a guide called the Banquet Book. It basically adds the edge of gin back to the red sloe juice.
