Sloe Gin is used in many cocktail recipes. Here’s another classic. The Backthorne is another name for the sloe berry, the fruit which gives its name to sloe gin. Although the sloe is technically related to plums, it is known historically as a berry, because of its small size.
In a tall glass, add:
Fill Mixing glass 2/3 full Shaved Ice,
1 Teaspoonful of simple syrup
1 ounce sweet Vermouth
1 ounce Sloe Gin
1 dash angostura bitters
2 dashes orange bitters
Thomas Bullock extraordinare chronicled this fantastic drink in his manual, The Ideal Bartender, 1917. This recipe is an adaptation of that classic.
